A Walk as Art
I set out to create a walk around my own neighbourhood which, in around 2010, had been earmarked for re-generation, and given the title ‘the Cultural Quarter.’ But did this title mean anything more than an expensive branding operation for the council, or was it a true reflection of the use of the location? To quote Jane Jacobs:
‘To approach a city, or even a city neighbourhood, as if it were a larger architectural problem, capable of being given order by converting it into a disciplined work of art, is to make the mistake of attempting to substitute art for life.’
